Abstract

Jewish archives are not only those produced by traditional Jewish communities. This autobiographical narrative describes how the author was able, sometimes with difficulty, to save the archives of many of the Alliance schools during travels in Iran, Morocco, Tunisia and Israel, which were full of unexpected events and miraculous discoveries. Some medical archives of the Œuvre de Secours aux Enfants (OSE) were rediscovered in Switzerland and Tunisia. The rescue of the archives of leading Jewish figures often depends on the good will of their legal heirs, as is shown in the case of the archives of Abraham Furtado, Pierre Mendes France, Rene Cassin or Dr Boris Tschlenoff. To the contrary, the manuscripts and the large literary correspondence of Edmond Fleg have, unfortunately, mysteriously disappeared.
