Abstract

The recent Egyptian attempts of desert areas development went through many problems that have never been studied or criticized properly. The criticism should determine the defections and failures that mainly come from the classic approaches of desert development; with the absence of the comprehensive understanding of the nature of the desert, tangled social, economic and political relations and others, and the tendency to develop the desert and to move systematically out of the Nile valley. Here will be two case studies of residential cities, one of them is national and the other is international, both share common construction time plan, style and the sustainable solutions. The case studies offer a comparison between the environmental and sustainable approaches of New Qarna (Luxor) and Haram City (6 October) and results were as following … From Results, we found that some Environmental standards were applied on those two case studies and other standards were not applied enough. Thus, we recommend planners and designers to apply the principles of green architecture to achieve an environmental balance in the new residential communities whether in or outside cities in order to achieve a sustainable urbanism
