Abstract

The study is to examine the theoretical aspect of the unification of South and North Korean Taekwondo, the alternative aspect of the process of it and software and hardware aspects of if. It is also to suggest concrete problems and practical plans to make the best of the results above for World Taekwondo and national development. As a result, the final purpose of this study is to prepare the ground for formulating a policy to achieve the unification of South and North Korean Taekwondo. The unification of South and North Korean Taekwondo is essential to show a new aspect of the suzerain state of Taekwondo. Just as the various branches of Taekwondo or kwans have been united through a great deal of labor, so must South and North Korean Taewondo be united in spite of the political ideologies. Many Taekwondo and non-Taekwondo people as well as foreigner instructors wait for the unification of South and North Korean Taekwondo. To go against this new paradigm of South and North Korean Taekwondo is not only to hinder Taekwondo development, but also to leave a historical error to generations to come. On the basis of a examination of the documents, in-depth interviews and a basic survey on a plan for the unification of South and North Korean Taekwondo, our opinions for practice of South and North Korean Taekwondo are as follws: Firstly, we separate Taekwondo from politics. Secondly, we need an open and capacious mind. Thirdly, South and North Korean hold together Taekwondo events. Fourth, we refuse competition between South and North. Fifth, we assist South and North Korean Taekwondo people in mutual visit. Sixth, we set up an organization for South and North Korean Taekwondo development. Seventh, we try to understand and accept North Korean Taekwondo. Eighth, we make the continuous and systematic exchanges and unification of South and North Korean Taekwondo. Ninth, we form a single Korean Taekwondo team. Tenth, we train South and North Korean Teakwondo professionals. Eleventh, we make up a peace park for South and North Korean Taekwondo.
