Abstract

Of recent, the Korean government has been focusing on urban regeneration projects. Most of these projects involve the renovation of old buildings. In general, old buildings tend to have lower energy performance than new buildings; this difference in energy performance is mainly because of differences in window and wall control systems. In order to solve energy performance- related issues in old buildings, we need to consider renovation systems with improved efficiency. For this reason, the demand for building retrofit technology has risen up drastically in the past few years. In this paper, we developed a new technology based on the double skin façade concept and shading devices, for use in the renovation of old buildings. The shading device consisted of 10 adjustable slats placed within the cavity of the double façade to enhance indoor daylighting performance. We used the RADIANCE software to conduct the simulation analysis. The dimensions of the simulated space were 6m(width) × 6.9m(depth) × 2.7m(height) with a window measuring 4.5m × 2.43m.
