Abstract
東日本大震災を踏まえて，広域災害発生時の救援物資輸送に関わる地理学からの貢献を論じた．具体的には遠くない将来に発生が予想される南海トラフ地震を念頭に，懸念される障害と効果的な対策を検討した．南海トラフ地震で大きな被害が想定される西南日本の太平洋沿岸，特に紀伊半島や南四国，東九州は主要幹線路から外れ，交通インフラの整備が遅れた地域であると同時に過疎化・高齢化も進んでいる．また，農村が自給的性格を喪失し，食料をはじめとした多くを都市からの供給に依存する今日の状況の中で，災害による物資流通の遮断や遅延は，東日本大震災以上に大きな混乱をもたらすことが危惧される．それを軽減するためには，迅速で効果的に物資を輸送するルートや備蓄態勢の構築が必要であるが，こうした点に関わる包括的な取組みは，防災対策や復興支援などの従来的な災害対策と比べて脆弱である．
