Abstract

This study aimed to identify the types of perceptions of sports participants and instructors on major factors of sports safety accidents using the Q methodology and to compare the perspectives of the two groups. A total of 25 Q-samples were constructed through various prior studies and interviews, and 10 sports participants and 10 sports instructors were selected as P-samples. The collected data were analyzed using Q Methodology Software, and principal component factor analysis and varimax factor rotation were conducted. As a result, three types of sports participants (prioritizing institutional responsibility, prioritizing advanced prevention, and prioritizing the role of participant) and three types of sports instructor (prioritizing the role of instructor, prioritizing the active role of participants, and prioritizing environmental factors) were identified. In addition, similarities between the two types of perceptions were found between the institutional responsibility type - prioritizing the role of instructor type and between prioritizing the role of participant type and prioritizing the active role of participants type.
