Abstract

The article analyses the issue of modernisation of Northeast China’s (Manchuria’s) agrarian system in the context of transforming traditional agrarian structures of the region on the cusp of the modern and contemporary periods. Role and influence of the Russian factor in this process are assessed. Scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that the issue is under-researched as well as in introducing new factual material into scientific use and interpreting facts from the standpoint of the contemporary view on historical experience of agrarian transformations in China and Russia. The attained results attest to the fact that the Russian factor played the leading role in modernisation of the region’s agrarian complex and formation of a small-scale economic structure in the process of its development.
