Abstract
A species structure of the genus Linum L. in Russia and adjacent states is critically reconsidered and corrected. The genus Linum in the area under study is represented by 2 subgenera: Linum and Cathartolinum (Reichenb.) Svetlova. The first subgenus comprises 38 species, 9 subspecies and 2 varieties from 9 sections and 8 subsections. The second subgenus includes L. catharticum L. 2 new combinations in the rank of subspecies are published. 5 specific names are reduced to synonyms. Changes and additions in the system of the genus are made. One new subgenus, one new section and 6 new subsections are described. An identification key for subgenera, sections and species of the genus Linum of the studied area is made. The type specimens for some taxa are designated. Geographical distribution of Linum species in the studied area is essentially added and corrected.
