Abstract
Amorphous palladium-arsenic alloy films containing about 20-40wt% arsenic were obtained from an ethylenediamine-palladium (II) complex solution to which was added 0.012mol⋅dm-3 NaAsO2.The amorphous films were not as readily dissolved in 1mol⋅dm-3HCl solution as palladium plate and crystalline palladium film, and were harder than crystalline palladium film, but the electrocatalytic activity of hydrogen evolution reaction did not increase. Additionally, NaAsO2 in the electrolyte enhanced the nucleation rate of the electrodeposit, formed extremely fine-grain deposits and distorted the palladium crystal lattice, so that amorphous films were obtained.
