Abstract
The issues of increasing the efficiency of electricity transmission by creating powerful ultra-high voltage long-distance power lines are considered, objective prerequisites for the prospects of their use are highlighted, as well as trends towards the use of direct current technology for communication between energy systems. Priority directions have been identified for the prepa-ration and implementation of the program for the development of direct current transmissions and direct current inserts in the unified energy system of Russia
