Abstract

Since the need for security is one of the basic human needs, and activities aimed at ensuring security are a necessary component of human life, the investigation of security discourse as a part of the security environment is always relevant. Until now, security discourse has not been studied from the standpoint of discursive sociolinguistics as a discourse of the institutional type, which functions in the course of speech interaction in the security field. The article substantiates that professionally-oriented communication within security institutions is a discourse of institutional type – security discourse. It identifies security spheres in which this discourse functions and state and non-state entities’ activities which it covers. The author describes the activity that determines the communication characteristics in the security field and influences the development of the language for professional purposes. The researcher reveals components of this activity and outlines the main system-forming features of security discourse ‑ the basic concept, purpose and, participants. The study results might be considered as a starting point for further comprehensive research of the security discourse as an institutional one.
