Abstract

The article analyzes in detail the content of a dozen works of Russian scientists of the 18th - first third of the 19th centuries who visited Dagestan and published material about its forest lands. They gave them a detailed description, differentiating forests into business, wood and drill. On this basis, the article characterizes the role and content of the people's adats, who legally protected the forest and its products in various rural communities of Dagestan. The last section of the article is devoted to the events associated with the Caucasian War, which had a detrimental effect on the natural resources of Dagestan.
