Abstract

The study aims to propose a model of intercultural competence of linguistics students based on the uncovered essence of the phenomenon “intercultural competence of linguistics students”. The study analyses the features of the notion of “intercultural competence of linguistics students”. The paper models the intercultural competence of linguistics students in the context of intercultural communication. Scientific novelty lies in identifying the features peculiar to the notion of “intercultural competence of linguistics students” on the basis of a cross-cultural approach; in presenting a model of intercultural competence of linguistics students that includes the following components: knowledge, skills, attitude and value dominants; in providing methodological recommendations for intercultural competence formation in linguistics students. As a result of the study, it can be stated that the consideration of the notion of “intercultural competence of linguistics students” makes it possible to identify the following features of the notion: the communicators’ ability to go beyond their own culture; the communicators’ willingness to act as a cultural intermediary; recognition of the views and opinions of representatives of another culture by the communicators.
