Abstract

The article reveals the results of the long-term study on compiling a collection of dialectal texts of the newly created East-steppe dialects, which started in the second half of the XX century and became more active at the beginning of the XXI century. The purpose of the article is to analyse the main principles of compiling a collection of dialectal texts of the Donetsk region, therefore it sets forth the main principles of the Chrestomathy of East-Steppe Dialects of the Donetsk Region, describes its structure in detail, analyses the way of reconstructing the dialectal records by means of simplified phonetic transcription. The quantity of certified materials under study is also stated in the article. Besides, the most important features of Ukrainian dialects in the Donetsk region are presented and reflected in the collection at all structural levels in such forms as they existed at the beginning of the XXI century. The Chrestomathy contains records that accurately reflect the original speech of dialect speakers, saturated mostly with phonetic, lexical-semantic, word-formation and grammatical dialectal features and characterized by diverse subjects. The article presents live linguistic samples of heterogeneous East-steppe dialects, which, in the conditions of industrialized Donbas, are preserved and actively spoken in villages, small towns and at the outskirts of large cities. The Chrestomathy texts provide information on the development of the Ukrainian language, as well as the peculiarities of its functioning in the contact and peripheral zones of the Ukrainian dialect continuum.
