Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to research the characteristics of Serial Verb Constructions(SVC) from a linguistic typological perspective and resolve some problems in Korean Verb Sequence ``V1-아/어 V2``. What I did in this paper is as follows. Firstly, I researched the characteristics of SVC on the basis of Aikhenvald(2006). Secondly, I argued that there is no SVC in the kernel sentences of Korean and that Auxiliary Verb Constructions(AVC) do not belong to SVC from the typological perspective. Thirdly, I showed that so-called SVC in Korean are restructuring structures in S-structure and they are different from SVC of kernel sentences as cross-linguistic phenomena. Fourthly, after dividing the restructuring constructions into what is stored in lexicon and what is not stored in lexicon, I named the former complex predicate and the latter predicate complex, and I argued that SVC and AVC in Korean are kinds of the predicate complex.
