Abstract

The citation in media discourse is ambivalent: on the one hand, it is an indicator of the objectivity of the text, on the other hand, the impact potential of the quotation itself is preserved, focused and enhanced under the influence of the context. The purpose of the article was to identify and describe the functional spectrum of a citation in a news brief message, the impact potential of which is minimal. Media acts containing quotes have been selected from news feeds. The linguopragmatic analysis showed that in addition to the already known factualizing, emotional, argumentative, suggestive and evidential functions, the quotation material increasingly performs a provocative function. It has been established that the quotation as a method of focusing on the opinion of an individual in the news text has expanded its pragmatic influence, and the quotation format is more common and deliberately used as a means of influence.
