Abstract

Instances of arc and sparks caused by poor insulation, gradual failure or poor contact of electrical wires within power distribution panels or between electrical equipment can lead to electrical fires. In order to prevent such electrical equipment related accidents, various sensors and measuring devices are used on site to monitor and detect anomalous incidents.<BR>This research develops an electric facility diagnostic system that determines the insulation status of power distribution panels, using sensor technology. Not only does the system generate individual warnings using the sensors installed within the diagnostic system, but the system uses the Fuzzy Inference System to calculate an Insulation Safety Index which is used to holistically determine the severity of the incident. In addition, by using wireless technology, the user is able to check on the smart phone the Fuzzy Inference Insulation Safety Index and the quantity of electricity supplied to load systems.
