Abstract

Purpose : This study evaluates the effectiveness of tuberculosis prevention and patient care program (TPPC) in the workplace. Methods : Using a one-group pretest-posttest design, we provided TPPC to small and medium-sized enterprises (N=59), and surveyed tuberculosis patient care, work environment management and workers’ perceptions of tuberculosis, before and after TPPC. Results : We found TPPC was very helpful to lower the prevalence of tuberculosis, increase the rate of follow-up examination of abnormal patients on chest X-rays, and improve the working environment including ventilation facilities at workplace. Also TPPC had a positive effect on workers’ perception of tuberculosis. Conclusion : By providing TPPC to small and medium-sized businesses, the blind spot of health care, it is possible to increase awareness and practice of tuberculosis prevention in the workplaces.
