Abstract

The article examines V. N. Tatishchev’s social and philosophical views in the context of studying origins and specificity of the Russian conservatism. By the example of this thinker, the authors show how elements of liberal-educational and conservative styles of thinking co-exist. The paper identifies the basic conservative dominants in his interpretations of political-legal, social-economic and spiritual values, institutions and relations. So, ideological heritage of the “father of the Russian history” is for the first time analysed taking into account his influence on formation and development of the Russian enlightenment and domestic “preservationalism”, which makes it possible to fully understand his role in the history of social thought.
