Abstract
The 2020 pandemic has significantly changed the principles of agricultural policy in countries with a strong market orientation. In almost all segments of the global food market, there is a drop in production and a decrease in consumption. According to the forecast of the world food organization (FAO), by the end of 2020, world meat production will decrease by 1.7% and average per capita consumption will decrease. Against this background, the world trade in meat is growing, in particular, there is an increase in Chinese imports. The restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 prevention measures have significantly hindered the operation of all market chains. They caused delays in transferring livestock to processing plants due to their closure during the epidemic and made it difficult or impossible to supply meat under international contracts. State support measures were required to eliminate or reduce the negative effects of anti-epidemic measures. The article analyzes the state of the meat market in 2020, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and measures taken to protect national markets.
