The pathogenetic rationale and effectiveness of including ω-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in the complex therapy of atopic dermatitis in adults
We examined 101 patients with moderate to severe AD aged 18 to 59 years (Me 31 [23; 41] years). Sixty-five subjects were administrated ω-3 PUFAs in addition to basic therapy and were randomized into subgroups receiving a high (3.6 g/ day, 200/240 mg EPA/DHA) or low (0.72 g/day, 40/48 mg EPA/DHA) dose of fish oil for 30 days. The control group consisted of 36 patients on standard therapy. Efficacy was assessed by the dynamics of the SCORAD index, the severity of subjective symptoms (itching, sleep disorders), and the proportion of patients with complete resolution of clinical manifestations. The most significant reduction in disease severity was observed in patients receiving a high dose of ω-3 PUFAs: the SCORAD index decreased by 81.8% (from 55 [41; 70] to 10 [8; 13] points, p<0.001), itching intensity by 87.5%, and sleep disorders by 66.7%. In the low-dose group, the reduction in SCORAD was 63.6% (to 16 [12; 20], p<0.001), and in the control group - 50% (to 20 [17; 22], p<0.001). The inclusion of ω-3 PUFA in the complex therapy showed a statistically significant advantage in the degree of AD manifestation reduction over the control group (p<0.05). Analysis of the proportions of patients with complete symptom resolution confirmed the dose-dependent effect: for key symptoms (rash, itching, dry skin), the responder rate was significantly higher in the high-dose group compared to both the control and the low-dose group (p<0.05). No adverse events have been reported. The study demonstrated the dose-dependent efficacy of ω-3 PUFAs in the complex therapy of AD in adults. The intake in a dose of 200/240 mg EPA/DHA provides a significantly greater reduction in disease severity according to SCORAD, a decrease in the severity of subjective symptoms, and an increase in the proportion of patients with complete regression of symptoms compared to both a low dose of ω-3 PUFAs and standard therapy. The obtained data confirm the pathogenetic rationale for including ω-3 PUFAs in the AD treatment.

The objective of this study was to evaluation the efficiency of Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and some species of Plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) to control Fusarium chlamydosporum fungus causing agent of decline date palm off-shoots. The isolation and identification results showed presence of F. chlamydosporum fungus from infected roots of infected palm trees and its major causing agent of diseases. The results appeared Pseudomonas fluorescens , Azotobacter chroococcum and Azosperillium sp. have high antagonism of pathogen under laboratory conditions. The evaluation results of biocontrol factors Glomus intraradices, G. mosseae, Gigaspora, P. fluorescens, A. chroococcum and Azospirillum sp. indicated that all treatments caused significant reduction in disease severity of death palm off-shoots disease into13.3-60.0%. compared to control (pathogen only) 86.7%. The interaction between G. intraradices and P. flourescens caused significant reduction in disease severity to 13.3% and enhanced the growth of foliage and root of offshoots length to 39.0 and 36.3cm respectively and increased the fresh and dry weight of foliage and root, 1.7750, 0.4977, 1.764 and 0.339g this result was closed to Beltanol fungicide effect. Also all biocontrol agents which used in this study alone (without pathogen) enhancement of plant growth compared with control treatment. The results of the current study showed for the first time that Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and Azospirillum sp. Bactrium to control and have good inhibition of Fusarium chlamydosporum fungus causing agent of decline date palm off-shoots and increasing plant growth in Iraq.

Plant diseases significantly threaten global food security, with viral infections, particularly Watermelon Mosaic Virus (WMV), causing substantial losses in economically important crops such as squash. This study aims to investigate the efficacy of beneficial bacteria isolated from various plants in promoting growth and mitigating the effects of WMV in squash. Understanding the interactions between plants and beneficial microbes could provide sustainable solutions for managing viral infections in agriculture. Sixty-two bacterial isolates were obtained from the rhizosphere of basil, mint, thyme, and squash plants. Among these, six strains exhibited notable plant growth-promoting activities, including the synthesis of indole acetic acid, solubilization of phosphate and zinc, ammonia production, and activity of 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate deaminase (ACCD). Morphological observations and 16S rRNA gene sequencing identified these isolates as Pseudomonas indica, Bacillus paramycoides, Bacillus thuringiensis, Bacillus mycoides, Paenibacillus glucanolyticus, and Niallia circulans. In pot experiments, squash plants inoculated with these bacterial strains demonstrated significant reductions in disease severity after being infected with WMV. Specifically, foliar applications of the bacteria resulted in the following reductions in disease severity: B. mycoides (87%), B. thuringiensis (73%), Paenibacillus glucanolyticus (73%), Niallia circulans (70%), B. paramycoides (65%), and Pseudomonas indica (65%). Additionally, plants treated with B. mycoides showed increased plant height and shoot dry weight, indicating enhanced growth performance relative to infected controls. Statistical analysis revealed that these growth promotions and disease severity reduction were significant (p < 0.05). GC–MS analysis of the six bacterial strains revealed a diverse array of 73 chemical metabolites, including common compounds such as 9-Octadecenoic acid (Z), benzene derivatives, and cyclopentanones. These findings suggest shared metabolic pathways among the strains and indicate potential roles in ecological interactions, plant defense mechanisms, and antiviral properties. These metabolites likely contribute to the observed reductions in viral severity and enhance plant resilience. The study indicates that inoculating squash plants with specific beneficial bacteria, especially B. mycoides, through foliar or soil application can significantly decrease the severity of WMV and promote plant growth. This approach offers an environmentally friendly alternative to chemical antiviral treatments and may reduce reliance on pesticides. This research highlights the potential of using plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB)as a sustainable approach to control viral infections in crops. Further field trials are necessary to PGPB validate the scalability of these findings and assess their effectiveness under diverse agricultural conditions. Incorporating these beneficial microbes into agricultural practices could enhance the resilience of cropping systems, ultimately fostering sustainable agriculture and enhancing food security.

Background: Besides having to cope with general developmental demands, children and adolescents suffering from atopic dermatitis (AD) have to face further daily and disease-related stressors. Therefore, an efficient stress and disease management is essential in order to avoid adverse effects on this chronic condition. Methods: In the present study, a patient education program implemented in inpatient rehabilitation was evaluated. A main component of this program was a cognitive-behavioral stress management training. Its efficacy was studied in comparison to a more knowledge-oriented education program without stress management. A total number of 60 patients aged 8–16 years participated in each treatment condition. 44 patients were included in the half-year catamnesis. Results: Immediately after rehabilitation, both groups showed a significant reduction in disease severity regarding the SCORAD index. Assessments at half-year follow-up indicated that the patient education program with stress management led to improvements in subjective health status and ability of coping with common stressors. In contrast, the control treatment tended to impair stress management in the long term. Conclusions: The results suggest that the multimodal patient education training for children and adolescents suffering from AD has beneficial effects on stress and disease management. The results are discussed with regard to an amelioration in quality of life.

Psychological and educational interventions have been used as an adjunct to conventional therapy for children with atopic eczema to enhance the effectiveness of topical therapy. This is an update of the original Cochrane review. To assess the effect of psychological and educational interventions for atopic eczema in children. We updated our searches of the following databases to January 2013: the Cochrane Skin Group Specialised Register, CENTRAL in The Cochrane Library (2012, Issue 12), MEDLINE (from 1946), EMBASE (from 1974), OpenGrey, and PsycINFO (from 1806). We also searched six trials registers and checked the reference lists of included and excluded studies for further references to relevant randomised controlled trials (RCTs). Randomised controlled trials of psychological or educational interventions, or both, used to assist children and their carers in managing atopic eczema. Three authors independently applied eligibility criteria, assessed trial quality, and extracted data. A lack of comparable data prevented data synthesis, and we were unable to conduct meta-analysis because there were insufficient data. We included 10 RCTs, of which 5 were new to this update; all interventions were adjuncts to conventional therapy and were delivered in primary- and secondary-care settings. There were 2003 participants in the 9 educational interventions and 44 participants in the 1 psychological study. Some included studies had methodological weaknesses; for example, we judged four studies to have high risk of detection bias, attrition bias, or other bias. Our primary outcomes were participant-rated global assessment, reduction in disease severity (reported as objective SCORAD (SCORing Atopic Dermatitis)), and improvement in sleep and quality of life. No study reported participant-rated global assessment or improvement of sleep.The largest and most robust study (n = 992) demonstrated significant reduction in disease severity and improvement in quality of life, in both nurse- and dermatologist-led intervention groups. It provided six standardised, age-appropriate group education sessions. Statistically significant improvements in objective severity using the SCORAD clinical tool were recorded for all intervention groups when compared with controls. Improvements in objective severity (intervention minus no intervention) by age group were as follows: age 3 months to 7 years = 4.2, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.7 to 6.8; age 8 to 12 years = 6.7, 95% CI 2.1 to 11.2; and age 13 to 18 years = 9.9, 95% CI 4.3 to 15.5. In three of five studies, which could not be combined because of their heterogeneity, the objective SCORAD measure was statistically significantly better in the intervention group compared with the usual care groups. However, in all of the above studies, the confidence interval limits do not exceed the minimum clinically important difference of 8.2 for objective SCORAD.The largest study measured quality of life using the German 'Quality of life in parents of children with atopic dermatitis' questionnaire, a validated tool with five subscales. Parents of children under seven years had significantly better improvements in the intervention group on all five subscales. Parents of children aged 8 to 12 years experienced significantly better improvements in the intervention group on 3 of the 5 subscales. This update has incorporated five new RCTs using educational interventions as an adjunct to conventional treatment for children with atopic eczema. We did not identify any further studies using psychological interventions. The inclusion of new studies has not substantially altered the conclusions from the original review. The educational studies in both the original review and this update lack detail about intervention design and do not use a complex interventions framework. Few use an explicit theoretical base, and the components of each intervention are not sufficiently well described to allow replication. A relative lack of rigorously designed trials provides limited evidence of the effectiveness of educational and psychological interventions in helping to manage the condition of atopic eczema in children. However, there is some evidence from included paediatric studies using different educational intervention delivery models (multiprofessional eczema interventions and nurse-led clinics) that these may lead to improvements in disease severity and quality of life. Educational and psychological interventions require further development using a complex interventions framework. Comparative evaluation is needed to examine their impact on eczema severity, quality of life, psychological distress, and cost-effectiveness. There is also a need for comparison of educational interventions with stand-alone psychosocial self-help.

Field experiments were conducted during the fall-winter seasons of 2017-18 and 2018-19 to evaluate the efficacy of various fungicides to control Neofabraea leaf lesion of olive. Field trials were conducted in the highly susceptible cultivar Arbosana in a commercial, super-high-density orchard in San Joaquin County, California. Up to eight fungicidal products were applied using an air blast backpack sprayer and their efficacy was compared with different application strategies. Results showed that most products were effective in reducing infection by the pathogens and limiting disease severity. Overall, best disease control was achieved by thiophanate-methyl, cyprodinil, difenoconazole + cyprodinil, and chlorothalonil, providing up to 75% reduction in disease severity. Copper hydroxide did not control the disease. In 2018-19, the fungicides difenoconazole + cyprodinil and ziram were evaluated in additional field trials using different application strategies (single, dual, and combined applications) suitable for pathogen resistance management. Results showed that both products provided significant reduction in disease severity (~50%) although no differences in efficacy were found between the two products nor between the different application strategies. Both products performed equally using one or two applications at two-week interval following harvest.

Eight bacterial isolatesbelonged to 4 genera, i.e., Serratia sp.,(one isolate) Bacillus subtilis, (three isolates) Bacillus thuringiensis,(two isolates) Streptomyces sp.(one isolate)and Pseudumonas flourescens(one isolate) and one fungal isolate (T. harzianum) were isolated from cucumber rhizosphere to evaluate their potential as antagonists to Sclerotiniastem and root rot on cucumber. In vitro, all isolates resulted in a significant reduction in hyphal growth of pathogenic fungus, Streptomyces sp. was more significantly reduced mycelium growth followed by P. flourescens and Bacillus subtilis (Bs1) (72.22, 68.0 and 62.22 %); respectively. All isolates gave a significant reduction in disease severity on cucumber plants, B2, Bs1, Bs2 and Streptomyces sp. isolates gave best reduction in disease severity. All isolates resulted in significant increase in morphological parameters of cucumber plants (stem and root length, foliage and root dry weight) compared to control.

This study aims to explore the impact of comprehensive medical care on the daily life of patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) and to evaluate its effectiveness in improving quality of life, alleviating symptoms, and reducing the risk of cardiac events. A new comprehensive medical care scheme combining Traditional Chinese Medicine nursing differentiation, collaborative nursing interventions, and specialized community care was proposed. Patients with CHD were recruited as study subjects. Data were collected via questionnaires and interviews to assess the real-world impact of comprehensive medical care on the daily lives of patients. Significant improvements were observed in the observation group across multiple metrics. Baseline characteristics between the 2 groups showed no significant differences initially. Post-intervention, the observation group demonstrated significant improvements in left ventricular ejection fraction and self-assessment of stress (SAS), with left ventricular ejection fraction values increasing to 53.8% compared to 47.2% in the control group, and SAS scores decreasing markedly (P < .05). Additionally, the Disease Severity Index (DSI) indicated a significant reduction in disease severity in the observation group compared to a nonsignificant change in the control group (P > .05). Quality of life, assessed via MacNew and activities of daily living scores, also improved significantly post-intervention in the observation group compared to the control group (P < .05). Furthermore, the observation group exhibited a lower incidence of myocardial ischemia, myocardial infarction, and thrombosis over a 3-year period, with patient satisfaction significantly higher in the observation group (90% reported perfect contentment) compared to the control group (70% reported perfect contentment; P < .001). These findings suggest that the comprehensive nursing care approach significantly enhances cardiac function, quality of life, and patient satisfaction in CHD patients.

Objective: This study aims to assess the integrated use of seaweed extracts, chitosan, and targeted fungicide applications for sustainable management of grapevine downy mildew. Study Design: The experiment was conducted by the Department of Plant Pathology, University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru, at farmers' fields during 2019 and 2020 Methodology: Field Experiments were conducted at Harobande village, Chikkaballapur district and at Linganahalli village of Bangalore rural district during fruit pruning season. The trial fallowed a Randomized Block Design (RBD) which had four different schedules with four replications, for each schedule 20 vines were maintained along with untreated control. Results: Among the tested treatments, Schedule 3, which incorporated LBD12 (a seaweed extract) in combination with chemical fungicides, demonstrated the highest reduction in disease severity, achieving 86.26% at Linganahalli and 87% at Harobande which was significantly superior (p <0.05) over all other treatments. This schedule also significantly contributed in enhancing yield and quality attributes. Furthermore, Schedule 2 (LBD3-based treatment) and Schedule 4 (chitosan-based treatment) also exhibited significant reductions in disease severity and enhanced yield performance over the control, though their effects were statistically lower than that of Schedule 3. Conclusion: This study highlights the potential of integrating seaweed extracts and chitosan with the need-based application of low-risk fungicides, offering an effective strategy for managing downy mildew while minimizing resistance development and fungicide residues in vineyards.

Helminthosporium oryzae, the causal organism of bacterial leaf spot (BLS) has brought a tremendous loss of rice crop in the field. Rice seedlings of four commercial varieties (Nayab basmati, Kiran 434, Super basmati, and Pak 386) were screened against BLS in the field by using a randomized complete block design (RCBD). The present experiment was encompassed the evaluation of fermented farmyard manure, leaf manure, Boron, and NPK solution against BLS. The effect of different fungicides (Score, Flumax, Melodyduo, and Polyram) was also checked on the mycelial growth of Helminthosporium oryzae in-vitro and in-vivo. The results showed that Pak 386 was highly resistant with 17.22% disease severity and Super Basmati was found moderately resistant with 22.31% disease severity; variety Kisan 434 was found moderately susceptible (24.15%) and Nayab Basmati (24.82%) was susceptible. Among all NPK solutions showed the best results in growth enhancement, plant vigor as well as reduction in disease severity followed by FFYM, boron and leaf manure. Under in-vitro conditions, all the fungicides performed best at 150 ppm in terms of colony growth reduction. The maximum growth inhibition was recorded in Score followed by Flumax, Melodyduo, and Polyram. Score gave a significant reduction in BLS disease severity and maximized the agronomic attributes. Alternaria leaf spot of cabbage, caused by the Alternaria brassicicola, affects leaves of cabbages and often results in head rots causing severe decline in yield. In this work, the effects of systemic and combination fungicides on A. brassicicola mycelia growth in vitro and disease severity in field trials were investigated. The results of in vitro evaluation revealed that both fungicides significantly inhibited (p < 0.05) the growth of A. brassicicola under in vitro conditions. However, metalaxyl-M 6% was less effective with 100 μg/mL having only 30 ± 3.5% inhibition. On the other hand, 100 μg/mL of mancozeb 63% + carbendazim 12% had 94 ± 3.5% growth inhibition of A. brassicicola, respectively, under the same conditions. Dose-response analysis of the efficacy of the two fungicides showed that the LC50 of metalaxyl-M 6% and mancozeb 63% + carbendazim 12% were 125.52 ppm and 57.22 ppm, respectively, indicating the superiority of combination fungicide over systemic fungicide alone. Field studies showed that while manure type significantly impacted on biomass production (p < 0.001), it did not significantly affect disease severity. On the other hand, the frequency of fungicide application impacted on disease severity, with biweekly application leading to a significant reduction in disease severity after 10 weeks.
