Abstract

The purpose of the paper is to identify the relation-ship between world politics and culture in the con-text of the concept of sustainable development. As an example, the author analyzes the situation in the region of the Arabian East. As a result of conflicts there is the destruction of the world’s histori-cal monuments over the past decades. The author analyzes civilizational transformations in the territo-ry of modern Syria and shows the importance of cultural heritage not only for the Syrian people but also for all humanity. It is concluded that it is neces-sary to unite the world political forces (UN, UNESCO, etc.) to help Syria to solve two problems: ending the war and preservation of historical and cultural herit-age of international importance. Besides, an important conclusion is the role of cultural heritage in modern international relations.
