Abstract

The article provides the analysis of concentration camps significance in the occupation measures for the suppression of the peasant uprising of 1920-1921 within the territory of Tambov province. By creating the system of concentration camps for the captured and surrendered rebels, the Communist government pursued the policy of terror against the population of the rebel areas. The field correction camps were used to hold the members of “bandit” families, including pregnant women and young children, as hostages. The number of the arrested, which exceeded the number of places in the concentration camps of the province, was the evidence of the repression scale. The prison environment increased the punitive effect.
