Abstract
The article deals with the issue of colour naming, which is characterised by both universal and specific features defined by cultural and national heritage of the native people. The work aims to conduct a comparative analysis of colour naming semantics in the Khanty, Mansi and Russian folklore. The study is novel in that it is the first to carry out a comparative-contrastive analysis of riddles with a colour naming component using the material of the languages with different structures, the Ob-Ugric languages and Russian, within semantic and culturological approaches. The attained results have revealed semantic commonalities (for instance, in riddles about fire, mushrooms, berries) as well as sematic divergences (for instance, in riddles about a birch, the moon, a bear).
