Abstract

The article examines the category of comparison at the syntactic level, in particular, by the example of the subordinate clause of comparison in the languages of different language families, Mari and German. The Mari and German complex sentences with the subordinate clause of comparison are productive means to express comparison because they help to transfer more adequately the meaning of a sentence. The findings indicate that subordinate clauses of comparison in the Mari and German languages have similar meanings and formative models. The difference lies in the number of temporal conjunctions, the ways to express the shades of comparison and the sphere of usage.
