Abstract
The author examines the influencing potential of conventional implicatures in the text type “analytical article” from the viewpoint of communicative-pragmatic linguistics. The articles of the German newspapers ‘Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung’ and ‘Süddeutsche Zeitung’ served as the research material. The paper differentiates the notions “explicature” and “implicature”, analyses the basic types of implicatures: conventional and communicative ones. Special attention is paid to the factors affecting the influencing potential of implicatures in the analytical article as a genre of print journalism. The analysis of functioning of different types of conventional implicatures in the German articles is carried out on the basis of differentiated implicit components and it contributes to identifying the addresser’s communicative intention.
