Abstract

The purpose of the research is to identify features of D. D. Shostakovich’s drafts that make their direct textual analysis difficult. The article summarises results of studying a number of the composer’s draft autographs, at the same time attention is focused on difficulties of analytical nature caused by shorthand notation, edits which were not recorded in the drafts, as well as coexistence of different variants of works. Scientific novelty of the research lies in clarifying understanding of the issues related to a textual analysis of Shostakovich’s drafts. As a result, the author has made a conclusion about frequency of these issues according to their type and outlined solutions.
