Abstract
The article analyses such a phenomenon as mullahs connected with djinn. Such cult servants took it upon themselves to protect people from the encroachment of invisible but powerful neighbors who could cause people a lot of problems. The phenomenon of “yinli molla” in the Nogai steppe blossomed by the 1930s-40s and died out in the 1980s, becoming a striking element of the “Soviet Islam” constructed by anthropologists. The author declares no conflict of interests.
