Abstract

In modern history, design has changed from styling, where meaning is in charge of aesthetics, to a tool of strategy for innovation and process that means creative problem solving. The meeting of critical thinking that allows one to judge biased information with reasonable doubt in the flood of reckless information according to these trends and changes in the times is a sufficiently predictable part. As time goes by, more changes will be made with the development of technology, and rational decision-making will also increase in importance. In this paper, the conceptual model that macroscopically simplified the design process into 4 steps of Jones and 2 steps of Tim Brown was critically considered through critical thinking. It was also pointed out that without critical thinking in the research stage, it is impossible to know what to design and what to research. In this paper, the concept, essence, and application of critical thinking are divided into three stages, and critical thinking has been discussed in depth, and three key arguments are asserted for application to reality. The definition of the evil problem, the balance of creative thinking, and the improvement of convergent and divergent thinking are these three. Critical consideration through the application of critical thinking in design research can provide a theoretical foundation for the development of the design process in the future.
