Abstract
The presented material sheds light on one of the interesting pages in the past of the city of Tambov and Tambov region, paints the picture of Tambov residents’ life and activities, the material and intellectual culture of the city and the region in the late XIX – early XX century. The creation of such a summarising work is conditioned by Tambov residents’ ever-increasing interest in the ancestors’ life and traditions, culture and art. Studying the history of the region allows not only better understanding the processes taking place in our home area, but also becoming better acquainted with the history of both Russia and countries abroad, since Tambov region has existed and continues to exist in constant interaction with its near and far neighbours.
