In the context of global polycrises and digital transformation, the pharmaceutical industry is becoming a critically important element in the economic and technological security of the country. The examples of the COVID-19 pandemic and sanctions pressure demonstrate the mechanisms of polycrises, their impact on the pharmaceutical industry, and the need to transform strategic thinking. The solutions lie in various disciplines. The study examines a new methodological approach to researching the economic security of the industry, based on the concepts of interdisciplinarity and the digital economy. Through the “Mode 2” concept, the need to move from traditional linear analysis to scientific life built around the practice of ensuring the economic security of the pharmaceutical industry is demonstrated. Digitalization has a transformative impact on the pharmaceutical industry while also being a source of new threats and a basis for the formation of integrative analytical approaches. The complexity of digital supply chains, data vulnerability, and dependence on global IT infrastructure create qualitatively different risk contours that require interdisciplinary analysis. At the same time, digital tools such as big data, artificial intelligence, and digital twins make it possible to build comprehensive methodologies for economic security assessment, combining technological, economic, and regulatory parameters into a single cognitive framework. It was found that the concept of economic security as an integrative environment is capable not only of combining diverse knowledge but also of serving as an operational platform for decision-making in conditions of growing uncertainty. Particular attention is paid to the institutionalization of integrated research platforms and the development of a new cognitive model of interdisciplinary specialists’ activities, the “thinking interface,” as the ability to connect the logic of different areas of knowledge (technological, economic, and regulatory). The formation of a new educational trajectory for the training of such specialists is suggested. The results of the study show that the economic security of pharmaceuticals in turbulent conditions is not only an object of analysis but also a tool for strategic action. It is at this point that the practical experience and responsibility of researchers must intersect, forming the architecture of a sustainable future for the industry.

The article examines modern approaches to ensuring the economic security of enterprises in the digital economy, where digital technologies, information resources, and cybersecurity are key. It is substantiated that digitalization transforms all areas of enterprise activity–from strategic management and operational processes to data governance and personnel policy–while simultaneously generating a new spectrum of risks, including cyber incidents, information leaks, technical failures, innovative threats, and institutional vulnerabilities. Based on the analysis of scientific works, the main theoretical approaches to economic security are identified: the resource-based, functional, risk-oriented, institutional-legal, and sociotechnical approaches, which reflect the multidimensional nature of modern enterprise security. It is demonstrated that digital assets – data, cloud services, algorithms, software, and IT infrastructure – have become key resources, and the level of their protection directly determines companies’ economic resilience and competitiveness. Particular attention is paid to personnel’s digital competence as a critical factor in reducing the likelihood of cyber incidents, as most security breaches are caused by human error and insufficient technological skills. The article highlights the importance of technological cybersecurity tools, effective data management, implementation of information security standards, and integrated risk management, all of which interact with organizational resilience strategies. A set of recommendations is formulated to enhance enterprises’ economic security, including developing employees’ digital skills, modernizing IT infrastructure, improving security policies, conducting regular audits and system testing, and strengthening institutional compliance with national and international standards. The prospects for further research are outlined, including the development of intelligent models for assessing digital risks based on artificial intelligence, advancement of methods for measuring employees’ digital competence, and the study of the impact of emerging technologies–blockchain, quantum computing, and autonomous systems – on the economic resilience and competitiveness of enterprises in the digital environment. Keywords: economic security of the enterprise, risks, threats, innovative development, digital economy, digital transformation, information security, digital competence, system approach.

  • Jan 1, 2023
  • Andreea Claudia Șerban + 2 more

The concept of economic and social security is very complex, and it is related to the challenges to synchronize the positive interaction between its two components. A stable economic and social context is very important for all economic sectors, tourism being one of the most affected sectors as willing to travel is closely connected to these aspects. Economic uncertainty and unsafe economic and social context seriously affect the expansion of tourism industry, no matter the attractiveness of the country or region. Taking into account the international context, economic security can be analysed in terms of access to resources and the decision-making process, with effect on achieving temporary or permanent advantages for different countries regarding bargaining power, as well as control over markets or resources. The complexity of the concept of economic security requires separate approaches for its different dimensions, being closely related to social aspects. We have identified five relevant dimensions/pillars interacting with economic and social aspects: demographic, globalization and technology, respectively, environment and, based on a set of relevant indicators for each of them, we propose a composite index of economic and social security for countries in Euro-Atlantic space (50 countries).

  • Agnieszka Sałek-Imińska + 1 more

The authors of this paper aim to assess the impact of digital transformation on the economic security of enterprises. To achieve this, a research problem was formulated, which seeks to answer researchers’ pressing questions: Is there a relationship between digital transformation and the level of economic security of enterprises? Does RPA contribute to streamlining the digital transformation process in the enterprise and thus contribute to its development and improvement of competitive position, thereby affecting its economic security? There is a lack of research in the subject literature regarding the specific impact of digital transformation, including RPA, on the economic security level of enterprises. There is a need to understand this relationship and identify key areas of digital transformation’s impact on economic security. To achieve the research objectives, a qualitative approach based on a case study was employed. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with experts employed in the subject of the study, using an interview questionnaire as a research tool. The study confirmed the existence of a relationship between digital transformation and the economic security of enterprises. Key areas of digital transformation’s impact on economic security include strategy, technological capabilities, human resources, customer communication, and information security. The results indicate an improvement in customer service quality, increased productivity, reduced error risk, cost reduction, and improved information processing security as effects of digital transformation. Additionally, the study confirmed that RPA contributes to streamlining the digital transformation process and improving the competitive position of the enterprise by implementing new tools supporting the achievement of strategic, tactical, and operational goals, particularly in cost reduction.

An analysis of modern scientific views on the concept of “economic security” is carried out. Scientific approaches in economic and legal research to the formulation of “economic security” concept and its essence are analyzed. The features of the legislative consolidation of this concept in different periods of development of the state and society are also analyzed. The study covers the period of time from the formation of the Concept of Economic Security in the Russian Federation to the present day. The main regulatory acts for the specified period in the field of ensuring the economic and national security of the state are characterized, changes in the legislator’s approaches to the essence and content of these concepts are identified. The problems of normative consolidation of the concept of “economic security” are identified, and ways to solve them are proposed. The author’s formulation of the concept of “economic security” is proposed, as well as the formulation of a semantic series of related concepts: “economic security system”; “economic security level”; “economic security assessment”; “ensuring economic security.” The necessity of approval by the Government of the Russian Federation of a document (“National Economic Standard” or “Indicators of the Sustainability of the National Economy”), which will list significant economic indicators and their threshold values characterizing the economic security of the state, is substantiated. This document will serve as a guideline for assessing activities to ensure economic security and the basis for determining the level of economic security. The thesis about the need for objectivity and information content of the legal concept of “economic security” is substantiated. Such a concept should be used uniformly in regulations, and therefore in scientific constructions.

In today’s technological world, digital transformation has become a prerequisite for the successful operation of any enterprise. This digital transformation is fundamentally changing approaches to doing business, setting new standards of efficiency and competitiveness in the global market. It is transforming traditional industrial processes by introducing automation and intelligent systems using modern digital tools, including the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence, which improves efficiency, reduces costs and protects against cyber threats. Ensuring economic and legal security in the context of digital transformation for industrial enterprises is a complex task that requires a comprehensive approach and scientific substantiation. The study aims to qualitatively assess the current level of use of digital tools for integrated management of industrial enterprises’ economic and legal security, identify potential areas for developing digital security in this area, and justify the need to introduce cyber defence in the current business environment. The study was conducted using a set of methods, including theoretical analysis, empirical research, and regulatory and legal analysis of the problem of using digital tools to ensure industrial enterprises’ economic and legal security. The article presents a study that covers both the impact of digital transformation on business and the analysis of current trends and challenges in this area. It has been proved that digital transformation involves introducing innovative technologies that automate processes, optimise resource management, and facilitate the adoption of sound management decisions. The international indices that assess countries’ digital development level, particularly the quality of communication, availability of digital services and cybersecurity, are analysed. The current business challenges associated with digital transformation are identified, which allows us to determine the critical areas of development of industrial enterprises in the digital economy, taking into account the managerial aspects of economic and legal security. The author investigates the relationship between the threats arising from the digital transformation of industrial enterprises and the new opportunities opening up in the context of the components of the production cycle. The author identifies typical obstacles in managing industrial enterprises with the introduction of digital transformation, areas of implementation and several digital tools to ensure their digital security, and provides proposals for the introduction of legal mechanisms for digital transformation.

  • Guangli Luo

Industry security is a component of economic and national security of a country or region. It is an important channel through which the government obtains reliable and valuable data to formulate policies and is the basic parameter essential for national and regional development. It is also an important part of macroeconomics. Research on economic industry security in various countries and regions is long-standing, but most studies have established a theoretical system by relying on policy regulations and economic behavior as a presupposition along with logical reasoning, a lack of economic activity, psychology empirical induction, and empirical analysis research. At the same time, economics began to reflect on postexperience single logical reasoning limitations. It was found that there are important reasons of human economic behavior that affects people’s economic behavior: It is a form of psychological motivation. It has been found through long-term study that human economic behavior has its own psychological motivation. To understand the motivation behind the behavior can help us grasp the nature of the behavior more clearly and accurately. The architecture method of psychology’s samples method of testing has the advantage of theory confirmation and construction, which the logical deductive method in economics does not have. It is in this context that psychology has a dialogue and fusion with economics resulting in the independent cross-discipline of economic psychology. Economic psychology not only broke the constraints of using purely logical reasoning in economics, it has also produced rich empirical technology; therefore, both early and future theory of economics can use these methods to perform empirical analysis research so that the research results and parameters are more scientific and realistic. Industry security in the economic field is naturally influenced by the development of economics: It introduces the theory and empirical technology of economic psychology to different degrees and in different ways to make studies more scientific and empirical. This is also the topic of this chapter. Currently evolutionary psychology and neural economic psychology have become hot topics [1]. The effect of psychology on economics has been widely recognized and applied. This chapter uses qualitative, comparative analysis, empirical method, etc.; discusses personal insights on the introduction of the theory and technology of economic psychology; clarifies respective performance effects, advantages, and practical significance of economic psychology and economic security; and discusses the orientation and focus of economic psychology in the industry security system. The innovation of this chapter is as follows: Question the limit of industry security fully established in subjective logic thinking; discuss the importance of introducing psychology to theoretical empirical analysis and technical guidance at every stage of industry security establishment and operation; put forward the author’s view of economics from the perspective of psychology; intentionally arouse more voice and special thinking on this subject from different fields; and jointly promote the development of China’s industry security research center and international industry security research system. The term “economic psychology” in this chapter refers to the common-concept category of narrow economic psychology with general economic psychology.
