Abstract

For a variable speed electric scroll compressor used for vehicle heat pump system, an eccentric bush combined with counterweight, so called swing bush, is widely used as a radial compliance device to control orbiting radius. Rotation radius of swing bush is a key design parameter in determining both sealing force magnitude exerted on the scroll wrap flank and restoring ability of the orbiting scroll back to its normal position after recess due to abnormal chamber pressure rise caused by the presence of refrigerant droplets, for instance. In this study, an analytical model for swing bush dynamics is presented and a way of optimum design is illustrated by a parametric study.
