Abstract

Since structures such as road facilities generally operate under various load conditions, it is necessary to evaluate the structural strength for the complex load in the design process of the structure. This study introduces the structural strength assessment approach of the structures by applying finite element analysis (FEA) methods. The assessment methods were considered in combination for structural response by wind load, vibration load and fatigue life evaluation. To evaluate the structural response by the wind load, 1-way Fluid structure interaction (FSI) analysis method combined with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis was applied. Furthermore, the strength assessment for the vibration load was evaluated by modal analysis, harmonic response and spectral analysis about vibration and seismic load condition. Finally, to ensure the proposed method two typical types of traffic facilities were applied: wireless and wired structure of road facilities. In FEA results, the structural performance due to wind load was similarly evaluated. However, for vibration performance, it has been confirmed that the wireless type relatively has good performance. Through these results, this paper reviews the need for the FEA applications and introduces the proposed approach and examples.
