Abstract

The article presents data concerning changes in the content of total lipids and cholesterol in hybrid gilts in comparison with purebred gilts at different ages. When examining total lipids and cholesterol, it was found that hybrid gilts contained higher amounts of cholesterol and total lipids in the blood serum. Thus, an increase in serum cholesterol in the experimental gilts was observed from two to eight months of age; the increase in total lipids continued until four months of age, from four to six months of age their presence decreased, and from six to eight months of age in all the groups studied it also slightly decreased. In the purebred groups, the lipid content decreased by 4.0% at six months of age. The results showed that the increase in cholesterol and total lipids throughout the study period was greater in hybrid gilts.
