Abstract

The article provides a close to exhaustive set of morphophonological processes that accompany noun formation derived from other nouns with the suffix -ец in the Belarusian language. Practically all possible alternations of phonemes are indicated; the most often cutting off endings of underlying stems are noted. The list of interfixes is given as a series of fragments in the structure of a derived word. Interfixes positioned between the underlying stem and the suffixal morpheme contribute to their optimal compatibility. A few cases of superposition of morphs are shown. As a result of word formation the analysis of some nouns with the suffix -ец more systemically justified (or simply correct) versions of their derivational structure are proposed than those presented in word formation dictionaries. Besides, the article proves the ability of some interfixes to promote better recognition of derivatives as representatives of certain semantic classes of words in addition to their main function in the word formation process.
