Between the text and society there is not a direct, but an indirect social-cognitive connection that determines the socio-psychological model of understanding the text. Forms of discursive impact are constructed from a complex mixture of linguistic markers, fi gurative and expressive resources. The increasing role of infographics as a concise and universal media visualization is noteworthy. The study describes strategies and an integrated set of verbal and nonverbal means of implementation of indirect communication by media, which they use in order to intensify the perception of media information as signifi cant and attractive, thus forming a complex structure of the eff ect on the recipient, who perceives the media text in an integrated manner without singling out its individual components. The article is devoted to a comparative study of infographics as an instrument of communication strategy for traditional media and hybrid forms (brand-media).The empirical part is based on a comparison of approaches of three brand-media (Skillbox Media and Media “Netology”, Vkusviil Media), and four Russian traditional publications – “Argumenty i Facty (Arguments and facts)”, “RBC”, “RIA Novisti (RIA News)”, “Takie dela (Such cases)”. Each resource implements its own model of visual interaction: from explanatory presentation and institutional verifi cation to analytical neutrality and ethically charged storytelling. We analyze how visual formats infl uence the perception of information and, at the same time, transmit editorial statements, forming trust and brand identity. The intensity of infographics is revealed through its orientation. The methodology of the study includes semiotic analysis, content-analysis, data visualization method, sociological survey, focused interview method, monitoring of brand media materials for one year. As a result of the study, we found that infographics in the media is not just a form of presentation, but a tool for strategic interaction with the audience. Infographics has ceased to be an illustration – it has become a full-fl edged structural unit whose multilayered form allows us not only to present data, but also to embed it into a logically organized system of meanings, ensuring a fast transition from information to knowledge. This makes it possible to consider infographics in the context of mythical creativity as a tool of media culture.

The article analyses linguistic strategies in media discourse, focusing on the British national variant of the English language. Media plays a crucial role in shaping public opinion and influencing societal perceptions. Understanding the linguistic strategies employed in media discourse is essential for deciphering how narratives are constructed and how information is manipulated to impact audiences. The primary purpose of this study is to identify and analyse the linguistic strategies used in British media to influence their audience. The objectives include a content analysis of media texts, identifying key linguistic strategies and techniques, revealing the impact of these strategies on the audience, and providing practical recommendations for studying media texts. Methods. This research employs content analysis, discourse analysis, and psycholinguistic analysis. Content analysis involves categorising different media texts (news articles, features, interviews) and examining their content. Discourse analysis focuses on the structure and content of the texts to identify how narratives are constructed and which linguistic techniques are used to influence the audience. Psycholinguistic analysis examines the psychological impact of these linguistic strategies on the audience's perception of information. Results. The analysis reveals significant differences in linguistic strategies across various media sources, including newspapers, television, and online media. Key linguistic strategies include metaphors, epithets, rhetorical questions, and irony. These strategies are crucial in shaping narratives and influencing public perception. Additionally, the frequency and intensity of these strategies vary depending on the target audience and the specific goals of the media outlet. For instance, newspapers may employ more sophisticated and subtle language techniques, while online media often use more direct and engaging language to capture immediate attention. The study also highlights the dynamic nature of linguistic strategies, adapting to the evolving media landscape and audience preferences. Originality. This study provides a comprehensive analysis of linguistic strategies in British media, highlighting the specific techniques used to influence audiences. The originality lies in the detailed examination of different media formats and combining content analysis, discourse analysis, and psycholinguistic analysis to provide a holistic understanding of media influence. Conclusion. The study concludes that linguistic strategies are vital in media discourse, significantly impacting audience perception and shaping public opinion. The findings underscore the importance of critical analysis of media texts and provide valuable insights for media analysts, journalists, and linguists. Further research is recommended to explore the evolving nature of linguistic strategies in digital media and their implications for public discourse.

The article presents the results of an analysis of the work of six Russian TV channels (Channel One, Russia 1, NTV, STS, TNT, Friday!) with social media: VKontakte, Odnoklassniki, Telegram, RuTube, YouTube, and in particular the performance of Telegram accounts of the selected channels. The year 2022 brought about the biggest change in Russians’ digital habits, which cannot even be compared with the transformation of pandemic times. Two-thirds of the time Russians spent online in 2022 was spent on the largest types of activity: 21 % on social networks, 18 % on video and 15 % on messengers. The researchers attribute the redistribution of the audience share between social networks and messengers not to a decrease in one activity and growth of the other, but to a spillover between the platforms and hybrid formats. The blocking of some social networks in Russia has led to an outflow of users from these platforms. This has also been one of the growth drivers for the hybrid Telegram, which also serves as a social network. Telegram’s growth peaks are related to Russians’ logical need for news sources during a period of turbulence. A significant portion of the time users spend on the site is spent reading Telegram feeds. Despite the evidence of the growing influence of social media in Russia, traditional television remains the number one media in terms of accumulated reach. Based on an analysis of the Telegram accounts of six Russian TV channels over four random weeks in 2022 and 2023, an attempt was made to identify the changing digital content strategies of the TV channels in the face of turbulence. A sample of TV channels was selected based on average annual ratings as well as thematic segmentation. Formally, all six TV channels are now “equalized in rights” and are among the publicly available channels of the first and second multiplexes. The following parameters were analysed in each of the weeks: number of posts, comments, views, and likes. On the basis of all audience and channel activities, the Engagement Rate, a coefficient of user involvement in the published content (posts), was determined. In addition, on the basis of the entire array of material, the most popular publications were identified and the forms of presentation were analysed. The specific objectives of the study were to identify content strategies, monitor and record the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of the activities of the selected television channels on the rapidly growing Telegram platform, and determine the audience response. Based on the results of the study, it is possible to identify an audience demand for news agenda, on the one hand, and for distracting content – rather than entertainment – in a period of turbulence, on the other hand. Television channels are forced to reinvent themselves in the changed social media space that they struggled to explore a few years ago. It seems that the Big Three channels are only trying to find their content strategies in Telegram, trying to copy the content strategies of other and previous social media, with NTV being the most successful. The “news” content Telegram is best suited for youth entertainment channels – TNT, STS, Friday! They successfully adapt interactive forms developed on other networks and use content created for other networks.

Accessible and Interactive: New Methods of Data Visualization as Tools for Data Analysis and Information Sharing in Transitional Justice Research
  • Jan 1, 2016
  • Transitional Justice Review
  • Tim Rosenkranz + 1 more

The production and use of datasets is a growing area in transitional justice research. One constant limitation, however, is the way this data is visualized. Relying only on static graphics and tables, many of these datasets are insufficiently explored and analyzed, and remain inaccessible for other researchers. Interactive data visualization tools are an ideal method for overcoming this gap. They are able to adequately present a wide range of quantitative and qualitative datatypes, such as geographic, temporal, network, and text data, and their interactive functions allow for a better exploration and understanding of the data. This article examines the visualization needs of transitional justice research, and demonstrates how interactive visualization can facilitate data analysis as well as information sharing. Presenting selected tools for different data types, the article provides hands-on methodological examples for effective handling of 1 The opinions presented in this article are those of the authors and do not represent the views and positions of their respective organisations. Tim Rosenkranz and Alexandre Jaillon 126 Transitional Justice Review, Vol.1, Iss.4, 2016, 125-186 transitional justice data using, for example, GIS mapping, Google Motion Charts, and Word Trees. Introduction In recent years, the use of quantitative data in transitional justice and its related fields has significantly advanced, a development that will most likely continue in the near future. This has triggered the production of quantitative and qualitative datasets in this field and furthered data-based arguments on some of the current key debates. One major limitation so far has been the way results and their related data have been made accessible. From animated graphs and multilayer data visualization to interactive mapping tools, many powerful methods are available to enhance the accessibility of datasets for both data analysis as well as result presentation. However, most publications are not taking full advantage of the potential of data visualization. This has left high quality research under the radar of many scientists and practitioners, and has caused an increasingly potent analytic research tool to be ignored. Today, the common perception of data visualization is as a tool used exclusively for quantitative datasets and primarily for result presentation. This view is long outdated. Animated interactive tools can increasingly be used to present both quantitative and qualitative data, making this technology particularly suitable for social science research. Furthermore, the initial visualization of datasets has become an essential tool of data exploration and analysis. Moreover, in light of the growing importance of ‘big data’ in data mining approaches, 2 One example for this is the Transitional Justice Research Collaborative: https://transitionaljusticedata.com/. Having produced a very impressive dataset, the statistical results are presented in static graphics and the dataset itself can be accessed only as a whole or by selecting individual countries. Both visualisation and access could be improved using interactive visualisations, as will be exemplified

Purpose of the study: to analyze the advantages and disadvantages of using a hybrid learning format on the example of the contingent of international students in pre-university learning programs of the preparatory school for international students at Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University. In order to find out the views of foreign students about the advantages and disadvantages of hybrid learning format, as well as to assess the level of their adaptation to the distance learning system, a sociological survey was conducted among 144 students of the preparatory school for international students of Kazan (Volga region) Federal University studying in the 2020/2021 academic year. The results of the survey allow us to conclude that the majority of foreign students consider distance learning in general and the hybrid format, including, not completely acceptable for education in the Russian Federation. Most of them prefer to return to the traditional education system. At the same time, students declare their satisfaction with the work of teachers and positively assess the quality of knowledge gained during learning in a hybrid format. Of course, the use of distance learning elements can diversify the learning process of foreign citizens, but personal communication and direct interaction with teachers and classmates, immersion in the language environment, individual and team work in the classroom, as well as an objective and high-quality assessment of their activities by teachers are very important for international students.

The Power of Strategy in Advertising. A Brief Theoretical Approach
  • Nov 30, 2023
  • Journal of Media Research
  • Mădălina Moraru

This study aims to theoretically emphasize the role of account planning in advertising. The main purpose is to persuade young professionals and students interested in the advertising field that a campaign should be perceived as an algorithm, where products, consumers’ desires, sales, or even the creative ideas are not the sole relevant aspects of success. Conversely, understanding consumers’ mentality, feelings, motivation, fears, and reasons for rejecting a brand is the crucial key for discovering the most effective way to build a loyal relationship with them. The paper explains the main concepts that guide every account planner to the right insight, such as brand awareness, brand capital, brand identity, brand associations, media strategy, positioning, and brand loyalty. Additionally, some concepts have been adapted to the Romanian local market to provide a clear understanding or, at the very least, motivation for the strategy. Why is account planning so relevant in the market, especially considering that agencies operate both globally and locally? There is a singular answer motivating the topic of this study, namely the instability of consumers influenced by such factors as technology, market evolution, unexpected desires, social development, and even professional updates

Redefine past for the future: Designing brand identity of museum Kota Bandung
  • Aug 25, 2022
  • Sri Maharani Budi Haswati + 2 more

Uncovering city museums is an idea to measure the sense of local pride towards heritage. Being aware of the condition, Bandung city's government had opened Museum Kota Bandung in 2018. However, as the newest museum in town, the management already faces several challenges, such as introducing the venue and attracting new visitors. Despite its convenient location, the survey indicates that Museum Kota Bandung still lacks public recognition, and the number of visitors kept on decreasing. The struggle worsened when the pandemic hit in 2020, and the regulation closed the building temporarily to unforeseen future. It is believed that designing brand identity for Museum Kota Bandung would help to portray the museum so that communities may perceive the historical journey of Bandung as a design city. Using qualitative methodology through several approaches such as interviews, questionnaires, and observations—this paper aims to reveal the creative process of designing brand identity for Museum Kota Bandung during the pandemic. Furthermore, AISAS as a communication strategy is used to evaluate the results, which consists of a logo, visual assets, and media strategy. The brand identity could be applied later by museum management and promoted through digital platforms before reopening.

The relevance of the research topic is due to the rapid transformation of the modern business environment, where the success of professional activity critically depends on the quality of interpersonal interaction and the ability of a specialist to effectively operate all channels of information transmission. In a globalized world, there is an urgent need for a deep understanding of the psychological specificity of the combination of verbal and non-verbal means. The need to rethink the theoretical and methodological foundations of studying this problem is reinforced by the digitalization of business discourse, which changes the traditional perception of non-verbal means and requires new approaches to the formation of communicative competence. In addition, the lack of holistic research explaining the mechanisms of emotional regulation through language and the synergy of subconscious signals with conscious speech constructions makes the study of this topic strategically important for the preparation of future leaders capable of ensuring the constructiveness of business communication. The purpose of this work is to provide a theoretical justification and systematic analysis of methodological approaches to studying the psychological specificity of verbal and nonverbal means in the structure of business communication. In the process of writing this article, a number of research methods were used, in particular: analysis and synthesis (used to reveal the essence of the concepts of "verbal" and "nonverbal" communication, as well as to study the psychological mechanisms of their interaction), a comparative-typological method (used to compare the characteristics of verbal and nonverbal means. It helped to identify the unique role of each communication channel, to distinguish the levels of their awareness and functional purpose), a systemic approach (used to consider communication as a set of interconnected cognitive, emotional and social aspects), a generalization method (used in the final part to formulate conclusions). It has been determined that the interaction of verbal and nonverbal components of communication is a key area of research in psychology, since this interaction affects not only the superficial elements of communication, but also deep cognitive and emotional processes that influence the perception and interpretation of information. A comparative analysis of verbal and nonverbal communication in business communication is presented, which made it possible to conclude that effective business communication requires a synergy of verbal and nonverbal components, each of which plays its own unique role in the communication process.

Topological Methods in Data Analysis and Visualization III
  • Jan 1, 2014
  • Peer‐Timo Bremer + 1 more

When scientists analyze datasets in a search for underlying phenomena, patterns or causal factors, their first step is often an automatic or semi-automatic search for structures in the data. Of these feature-extraction methods, topological ones stand out due to their solid mathematical foundation. Topologically defined structuresas found in scalar, vector and tensor fieldshave proven their merit in a wide range of scientific domains, and scientists have found them to be revealing in subjects such as physics, engineering, and medicine. Full of state-of-the-art research and contemporary hot topics in the subject, this volume is a selection of peer-reviewed papers originally presented at the fourth Workshop on Topology-Based Methods in Data Analysis and Visualization, TopoInVis 2011, held in Zurich, Switzerland. The workshop brought together many of the leading lights in the field for a mixture of formal presentations and discussion. One topic currently generating a great deal of interest, and explored in several chapters here, is the search for topological structures in time-dependent flows, and their relationship with Lagrangian coherent structures. Contributors also focus on discrete topologies of scalar and vector fields, and on persistence-based simplification, among other issues of note. The new research results included in this volume relate to all three key areas in data analysistheory, algorithms and applications.

Purpose. Development of recommendations for determining the impact of education on the formation of the competitiveness of national economies in the conditions of the knowledge economy using the analysis of existing indicators “measurement of the level of the knowledge economy”, conducting an analytical study and developing, on this basis, an integral indicator of the impact of education on the competitiveness of the countries of the world. Methodology. In the research process, the method of coefficient analysis and such methods as quantitative and graphic analysis, the method of data visualization, and the sociological survey method were used. Findings. The work performed a ranking of countries using the developed indicator, which allows determining the competitiveness of countries in the world in the knowledge economy under the influence of the development of education. The basis of this rating is our own integrated rating coefficient, which is based on world indices, considering the degree of their importance in revealing the level of education and its influence on the process of formation of the knowledge economy. The work outlined directions for further research on the formation of an effective mechanism for the development of education based on the wide implementation of its open component. Originality. It was revealed that there is no single indicator in global practice that would fully determine the competitiveness of the countries of the world in the conditions of the knowledge economy under the influence of education development. A survey was conducted, in which teachers, scientists, educators and public figures from Ukraine, Poland, Germany, Italy, Israel, Great Britain and Canada, a total of 203 people, took part. The results of the survey made it possible to propose our own integrated rating coefficient, based on a set of indicators from four world ratings. Practical value. Research into the aspects of success in creating a knowledge economy by the leading countries, which are identified on the basis of the integrated rating coefficient, will allow us to spread their experience in creating effective educational prerequisites to other countries in the process of ensuring their own development.

Influence Of Clip Thinking On The Cognitive Abilities Of Students
  • Oct 31, 2020
  • ˜The œEuropean Proceedings of Social & Behavioural Sciences
  • Andrey Leonidovich Kraynov + 1 more

The article analyzes the influence of clip thinking on the cognitive abilities of students. Being a phenomenon of the information society, clip thinking significantly changes the perception of information by students. Under its influence, their ability to work with text associated with its holistic analysis is reduced, and their skills of working with short text blocks in the form of diagrams and video presentations are strengthened. Clip thinking leads to the loss of critical analysis skills of the information received, which negatively affects decision making. Under the influence of a huge stream of the most diverse information that modern youth is trying to perceive, switching from one application of a digital gadget to another, the consciousness becomes mosaic, snatching out from the surrounding world separate brightest fragments that are not connected with each other and constructing on this basis an eclectic picture of the world, devoid of depth and integrity. Thus, the principle of economy of thinking, its limitations, is formed in modern youth, which consists in the fact that the action is performed first, and then, if necessary, its understanding.. The inability to clearly, logically and coherently articulate one’s thought, understand and state the essence of a scientific text or problem, without resorting to gadgets, negatively affects students' learning of teaching material. The way out of this situation is seen in a combination of information technology achievements with traditional methods of working with scientific text, in which gadgets will be used exclusively as an auxiliary source of scientific knowledge.
