Abstract

Background. Acute pancreatitis is one of the five most common diseases in urgent abdominal surgery. Recently, the methods of electron microscopy of erythrocytes as a predictor of determining the severity of acute pancreatitis have become firmly established in practice. Purpose. To compare the state of erythrocytes of healthy people with erythrocytes of patients with acute pancreatitis of different severity. Materials and methods. The study of peripheral blood erythrocytes of healthy people and patients with pancreatitis of varying severity was carried out. For comparison, the erythrocyte shape, cytoplasm state, as well as the content of potassium, sodium, calcium, nitrogen and oxygen were studied. Results. During the study, the correlation between the severity of acute pancreatitis course and changes in the shape, membrane and ionic composition of the peripheral blood erythrocyte cytoplasm was noted. Conclusions. According to the obtained changes in erythrocytes, it is possible to indirectly judge the processes occurring in the cells of the pancreas and, accordingly, to determine the severity of the acute pancreatitis course.
