Abstract

The sun and moon are mentioned in the story of Joseph, peace be upon him, in the sūrat called by his name in The Holy QUR-ĀN in verse: (4); Allah says: “Joseph said to his father: O my father I did see eleven planets and the sun, and the moon: I saw them prostrate themselves to me.” It has been interpreted by many of interpreters in the science of the Holy QUR-ĀN, one of the Ibn Katheer, that the eleven planets are Joseph's brothers. As for the sun and moon, they mean in this context his father and mother, and he said that this dream had already been fulfilled after Joseph became AZIZ in Egypt, and all his family already came to Egypt. InQUR-ĀN The God says:And he raised his parents on the throne and they fell down in prostration and he said, O my father, this interpretation of my vision, Allah hath made it come true. He was indeed Good to me when He took me out of prison and brought you from the Bedouin after Satan had sown Enmity between me and my brothers, (sūrat Yusuf: Verse 100) By this sūrat, I see that the Holy QUR-ĀN in these verses indicated that the Prophet of God, Joseph, raised his parents High on the throne, It means, that they did not prostrate before their son Joseph, peace be upon him, while his brothers fell down prostrating to him. In this case the sun and moon are not his parents as mentioned by many of interpreters; To raise Yusuf's parents to the throne. And the brothers prostrate to him at the same time in front of him. The verses of the Holy QUR-ĀN itself are also given a clear explanation of the meaning of the sun and the moon in the story of Yusuf, peace be upon him. In this research, I will present an interpretation of the sun and the moon in context of the story of Joseph (Yusuf), peace be upon him, according to ancient Egyptian Sources and what was their symbolism in Egyptian civilization and according to ancient Egyptian sources and civilizations, where the events of that story were taking place on the land of ancient Egypt.
