Abstract
The article touches upon certain historical aspects of criminal punishment in the form of a fine. The content of similar and distinctive features of a fine in the modern Russian criminal law, in comparison with the criminal law of Mongolia, is revealed. The positive and negative aspects existing in the mechanisms for the appointment and execution of a fine are noted, statistical information on the practice of its execution is provided, a comparison of the minimum and maximum limits of a fine in the norms of General Parts and sanctions of Special parts of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and the Criminal Code of Mongolia is presented.
