Abstract
The wholesale electricity and capacity market is a sphere of circulation of special goods — electricity and capacity within the framework of the Unified Energy System of Russia within the boundaries of the single economic space of the Russian Federation with the participation of large producers and large buyers of electricity and capacity, as well as other persons who have received the status of a wholesaler market. Legislative regulation of the structure, mechanisms of trade in the wholesale market by the norms of the Federal Law of March 26, 2003 No. 35-FZ “On the Electric Power Industry” has undergone changes over a twenty-year history. The article provides an overview of the modern structure of the wholesale electricity and power market, examines historical changes, and describes the prospects for further development of the wholesale market model.
