Abstract

The study aims to assess role and significance of activity and strategic initiatives of Sterlitamak mayor Konstantin Dmitrievich Rostovtsev (1855-1932) in development of urban self-government, economy and education in Sterlitamak and the Ural region in the late XIX - early XX century. The research is novel in that it provides a comprehensive assessment of K. D. Rostovtsev’s activity and strategic projects, his managerial and organisational qualities. As a result, it is proved that K. D. Rostovtsev’s organisational and managerial activity had a great impact on social and economic development of Sterlitamak and the Ural region. K. D. Rostovtsev’s activity shows that in his internal attitudes and beliefs, he was and always remained a great power nationalist.
