Abstract

Background. Progesterone and estradiol concentrations play a crucial role in implantation. Aim.To assess progesterone and estradiol concentration ratio impact on pregnancy rate and ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome risk (OHSS). Material and methods. We studied 718 patients in vitro fertilization programs (IVF) in “Center of Reproductive Medicine” (Minsk, Belarus). We measured serum levels of progesterone and estradiol on the day of final oocyte maturation trigger injection and assessed P4/E2 ratio. Results. P 4/E2 ratio > 0,79 was associated with IVF failure with high sensitivity and specificity (Se 88,9%; Sp 89,1%). No correlation was established between P4/E2 and OHSS. Conclusions. P 4/E2 ratio is a valuable prognostic marker of IVF efficacy, but it has no prognostic value in predicting OHSS.
